As you contemplate how to change your entire lifestyle from sticks and bricks living to full time RV living, there are many things to consider.
The first consideration should be your budget. If you think RV Living is going to be considerably less expensive, let me disavow you of that notion right away. Although you will no longer be paying property taxes, or utilities on a home, these expenses are exchanged for fuel costs and RV parking. If your RV is paid for, then, good for you, however, a RV payment is basically interchangeable with a house payment, if you are purchasing a coach that is suitable for full time RV living. Of course you can get by with a much less expensive unit, which would then allow you some financial breathing room.
If you are living full time in your rig, you must carry RV insurance for full timers. This is a whole different animal than the insurance you would carry for your vacation rig. RV insurance for a full time rig is much more expensive, however, if you fail to convert to full time RV insurance, and your insurance company finds out you are living in your rig, they could possibly void your insurance policy under false claims.
Few other aspects of your budget will change. You will still need groceries. You will still eat out, maybe even more than before. You will still have your cell phone bill, and possibly your internet bill. You will also need to have TV service, so you must consider those options.
If you are staying in an RV Resort, you will probably have WiFi and Cable TV service available. However, if you, like many of us, choose to stay in less expensive RV Campgrounds, these services may not be available, and then you must decide if you can live without them, or if you are going to allow room in your budget for that monthly expense.
Your clothing needs will change, but you will still have clothing expenses.
I suggest you realistically go over your entire budget, and determine what items, may or may not be able to be deleted. I believe you will find, that not too much changes, however, having a realistic view before you make drastic life changes will allow you to stay out on the road, once you get there.
You may be asking yourself...so what is the point? Ahhh, but there are so many benefits.
Fulfilling lifelong dreams of travel are just the beginning. Meeting other folks out on the road who are living the same lifestyle is a joy, and having the freedom to come and go as you like is incomparable.
We have been living the full time RV lifestyle since 2003, and have never regretted our decision for a moment. The joy of being rid of all that stuff, no lawn to mow, no taxes to pay, no pool to clean has been totally worth it.
This is just the beginning of the rest of your life.
