Today I Shall See My Friend Donna. . .

Alluvial Fan Waterfall - Fall River Road - Donna and Larry - Rocky Mountain National Park
and hubs Larry, whom we have not seen since Summer 2012. . .
although we do stay in touch on FaceBook and phone. . .
She will kill me for this pic. . .but this is exactly how I think of her. ..
always taking a pic of something. . .she’s really good at it!
East Portal Campground - the view from Donna and Larry's patio
If you’ve read our blog for awhile, you may remember
when we park hosted together in fabulous Estes Park Colorado. . .
this was the view from our campsites. . . it was a great summer.

We’ve finished up our few days here at the
and although it is lovely,
unless we just happen to be passing right by,
don’t really see ourselves returning. . .

We spent  Saturday
exploring nearby Collierville TN. . .
which also allowed us to do a bit of grocery shopping.

I thought I had stocked up really well before we
left Houston, but evidently, not as well as I imagined.

Yesterday, we washed the rig and the car.
They were so coated with pollen,
they were both almost yellow. . .

Our friend Margery says we may be following spring north,
which I find an exciting prospect as far as all the blooms,
but not so exciting as far as the pollen goes. . .

I know, I know. . .gotta take the bad with the good. . .

The blooms definitely make it worth it. . .
See you at the next stop,

‘til then

Cherokee Landing Campground–Saulsbury Tennessee - Thousand Trails

Dogwoods, Cherokee Landing RV Park, Saulsbury TN
we have arrived at Cherokee Landing Campground
in Saulbury TN at the height of the Dogwoods blooming
Dogwoods
and they are glorious. . .
Cherokee Landing RV Park, Saulsbury TN
this is a beautiful park. . .however.. .please be aware. . .
if you are in anything longer than about 30 feet. . .
the number of spaces you can fit into will be limited to. ..
along the back fence in Phase I – water and electric only. . .
out of 15 FHU spaces, these are the three we would fit in. . .there are four more easily accessible, not very level ones on the other side of the loop. . .and then about eight that require backing downhill on a dead end trail to access. . .no thank you!
and these three spaces in the full hookup section. . .
that’s about it. . .

You can check out the rest of the pics of the park
here in this album. . .I have attempted to add
info about each pic. . .so if you look at them individually
you should be able to read the descriptions. . .
and if you have further questions about anything
just email me at EvansEscapades@gmail.com

A Better Travel Day–Mississippi to Tennessee

only four hours on the road today. . .the only bit of drama. . .
Tennessee State Road 4. . .Dave was not a fan of the narrow lanes and non existent shoulders. . .
Dave was not a fan of Tennessee State Road 4’s
narrow lanes and nonexistent shoulders. ..
fortunately, that only lasted about an hour.
I was trying to tell him to just take his half out in the middle. . .
oncoming traffic could squeeze by. . .right!
No problems. . .he did great!
Monaco, Cherokee Landing Thousand Trails, Saulsbury TN
and here we are. . .all settled in to
a beautiful spot in a beautiful park in Tennessee. . .
too bad we're "campin'". . .and "rougin' it". . .ha ha!
Only 30 amp service and no sewer. . .whaaaaat. . .JK!
We're lovin' it just fine. . .it's a lovely 64*. . .
we can sleep with the windows open. . .no worries. . .
just gotta go easy on the water usage,
(I made the supreme sacrifice,
and went to the bath house for my shower. . .gasp)
so we don't hafta go to the dump station. . .UGH!
2014-04-18 Tennessee, Summer Travel 2014, 017
and it is a beautiful property. . .
but let me tell you. . .
Campground is the exact right term for it. . .
It is NOT set up for big rigs. . .AT ALL!

There are about 10 FHU sites, that anything over 30 feet
could get into. . .and maybe 20 – 30 Water and Electric only 30 AMP sites
that would work for anything bigger.

We drove around after we got set up,
and as best as I could tell. . .most of the sites here
would be better suited to a pop up. . .

However. . .with all that said,
it is a stunningly beautiful property,
and well worth a short stay,
unless you can snag one of the FHU sites. . .
Dogwoods
the dogwoods are in full bloom. . .just fabulous!

We will be here for five nights. . .so we’ll get in some sightseeing tomorrow.

’Til then

My Incredible Luck–I Gotta Share

Since yesterday was our last day at Lake Conroe for a few months,

I wanted to make one more pass with the camera. . .I was really trying

to get a shot of a water moccasin that I had spotted at one of the ponds. . .

alas. . .no luck!  but. . .I did get this incredible shot

of this momma Mallard. . .she’s set her nest up right at the edge of the hot tub. . .

and then. . .the most incredible thing happened.

I had walked around to the “Bass Pond” and sat down at a picnic table. . .

because I could hear birds all in the edge of the brush, I had turned on the camera,

and was scanning with the high power lens to see if I could get a shot of one of them. . .

Lo and behold. . .this is what flew right into my view finder. . .

I just held down the button and started clicking. . .

Evans Escapades–Sticking Close to Home

Dave is scheduled to teach classes through April,
so although we would love to make it to the Rio Grand Valley, and especially to South Padre’. . .
it’s so much more convenient to stay centrally located in the Houston vicinity.

I guess we had forgotten how lovely the Colorado River Preserve in Columbus is. . .

This is the view out our back window most mornings and afternoons. . .

We assume this guy is in charge of the herd. . .
Dave’s using a long range lens, and then I cropped the pic,
so although it’s not as clear as I would like, you still get the idea!

There’s not much going on. . .I’ve been working on a few RV projects,
while Dave was gone teaching a class Laredo.

We have some sightseeing scheduled. . .
maybe this week we’ll go check out Old Town Columbus. . .
which is the county seat, and has a gorgeous Court House.
There is supposedly an audio driving tour,
which allows you to tune in to a certain frequency
on the AM radio, and hear about all the historical buildings.
We always love those, so we’ll keep you posted about that. . .
In the meantime, we sit out on the patio in the afternoons
and enjoy the ambience of the place.
DSC_7827
This guy sat in a tree across the road for ages. . .before finally hustling off for his next meal.
DSC_7847
and I wasn’t exactly sure what this little guy was. . .
after looking him up in my Peterson Field Guide. . .
I think I have it right. . .
if not, please feel free to correct me. . .
Until next time,
Safe Travels,
Janice
