Acadia National Park–Schoodic Peninsula

Schoodic Peninsula is a portion of Acadia National Park 

located on the mainland. . .

less than 50 miles from Bar Harbor,

and less than 30 miles from Ellsworth, where Walmart is. . .

first stop. . .the overlook at Sullivan Harbor. . .

looking across Frenchman Bay to Mount Desert Island. . .

your next stop. . .the Visitor Center in Winter Harbor,

 if you are so inclined. . .

but after you stop there. . .be sure to turn on Harbor Street, 

and go all the way to the end. . .

it’s a beautiful vista looking out over 

Winter Harbor to Frenchman Bay. . .

once you enter the park, there are numerous pull outs. . .

Acadia National Park–Ranger Talks

Focus on Acadia – Photography Workshop with Ranger Robert Thayer

any time a professional photographer is doing a Nature Talk

or anything concerning photography, Dave and I will probably be there. . .

and a fellow blogger had enjoyed this talk so much that we really wanted to check

it out and meet Ranger Robert Thayer –

author and photographer of Acadia’s Carriage Roads. . .

If you are interested in learning better photography techniques,

especially concerning shadows, light, and subject matter,

you will enjoy this photography workshop style program. . .

We did a a couple of photography assignments at

Sieur de Monts Spring where the tour started. . .

we ended up being there about an hour before everyone getting into their

vehicles, and moving on to Sand Beach. . .and then later to Otter Cliffs,

which was my favorite stop of the day. . .

I found the program interesting but would have been more engaged

had we gotten more tips of iconic places to photograph in the park. . .

and what times of day those places are shown in the best light. . .

but that’s just my take on it. . .I still would highly recommend making the effort to attend. . .

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                  

Bar Harbor Maine–Harborwalk on the Shore Path

After our fabulous lunch at the Jordan Pond House,

we decided a walk was definitely in order. . .

and this one along the Shore Path in downtown Bar Harbor

is a beautiful one. . .here are a few of the things we saw. . .

American Cruise Line had a small ship in port. . .

lobstermen sorting their catch. . .

fishing boats at the dock. . .

yum. . .no explanation needed!

there’s a line. . .it’s gotta be good. . .right?  I’m still too full to find out today. . .

watched the tour boats returning. . .

and a kayak tour leaving. . .ugh. . .all that work!  AND you gotta pay to have all that fun. . .

boats at anchor in the harbor. . .

but my favorite thing. . .

watching people crossing the sand bar at low tide to walk over to Bar Island

still a little early. . .these are the folks wading across the middle section. . .

and then on to the deeper, swifter section. . .are you crazy?

okay. . .almost there. .

.

any time there are boys, rocks and water. . .the skipping must commence. . .

this little guy was pretty good. . .

these two little cuties entertained themselves for quite some time. . .

I guarantee you the one in the orange shorts is weighted

down with at least ten pounds of treasures in his pockets. . .

and finally. . .the entire sand bar is exposed. . .

quite the little exodus headed that direction.

Did I feel the need to walk over there?

Noooooo. . .no at all. . .

it’s the same rocks over there that it is over here. . .

but I sure liked watching everyone else do it. . .

hmmmm. . .here’s a sign they could have saved themselves the expense of posting. . .

Acadia National Park–Jordan Pond–The Bubbles and Bubble Rock

What a wonderful, fabulous day we had having lunch at Jordan Pond House. . .

here’s how ya do it. . .as our next door neighbor explained it to us. . .

first off, you arrive early. . .by at least 10:30

so you can park in the front parking lot. . .

you will need to be in line to be seated by 11:15

so you will have a few minutes to check out

Jordan Pond (looks more like a lake) and the

North and South Bubbles in the background. . .

this is how the line looks by the time seating starts. . .

but don’t worry. . .they have plenty of space for eating. . .

it’s the parking you gotta worry about. . .by arriving at 10:30 we parked in the front parking lot. . .

this is how the parking looked by the time we finished lunch. . .

down the side of the road all the way to the turn off. . .

you can choose inside, porch, or outside dining. . .

since it was breezy and cool, we chose the porch. . .

still a great view, but protected from the wind. . .

the thing Jordan Pond House is famous for of course. . .popovers

but we also had Lobster Stew. . . (almost a chow da. . .but no potatoes)

a bowl doesn’t sound like much, does it?

it was a lot. . .I didn’t think I was going to finish a bowl of stew and two popovers. . .

I was ready to POP for sure. . .

having seen “The Bubbles” I needed to see “Bubble Rock”. . .

a rock that seems to be balanced precariously on South Bubble. . .

I had read that it could be viewed from The Bubbles Parking Lot,

so after lunch, we turned left, and headed that direction. . .

Bubble Rock was very visible from the road. . .so we parked the Jeep,

and walked back down the side of the road to a suitable viewing spot. . .

I feel absolutely no need to hike up there and touch it. . .

but I surely do appreciate these folks for doing so. . .

makes a great pic. . .don’t’cha think?

If you are visiting Acadia. . .we certainly hope you’ll enjoy lunch at Jordan Pond House.

a little pricey. . .but a great experience. . .

Southwest Harbor and a Couple of Short Hikes–plus Tidal Pools–first time to see them

We left the RV park with clear, sunny skies overhead. . .just a beautiful 79*. . .

with the idea of replicating a couple of hikes another couple of RV Bloggers

had written about. . .Wonderland Hike and Ship’s Harbor Hike. . .

but as we got closer to the coast. . .we began to SEE the SEA mist drifting across the road,

and the temps began to quickly drop. . .uh oh. . .hmmm. . .probably not gonna see too much. . .

oh well. . .it will still be good exercise. . .so we continued on. . .

now Sherry had said in her post that they wondered where the

Wonderland was on the Wonderland Trail. . .and I must say. . .

for about the first fifteen minutes. . .I was wondering with her. . .

but then the trail finally opens up onto this beautiful rocky shoreline. . .

we were there at low tide, and you could walk a long, long way on this rock shelf. . .

this was my very first experience at ever seeing a tidal pool. . .

where we are from on the Gulf Coast. . .there are no tidal pools that I know of. . .

the sand just sucks everything in until the next high tide. . .

I loved that I could see all the little mollusks, and the crabs scurrying around. . .

in this tide pool you could really see the little snail looking mollusks moving around on the seaweed. . .

and then when we walked back up to the path area, there were just all these little empty mollusk shells. . .

which with all the pounding surf will soon be ground into sandy pebbles. . .and the cycle of life goes on.

we then headed over to the Ship’s Harbor Trail. . .but as you can imagine,

with all the fog was just a nice walk with the sound of the ocean nearby.

We still enjoyed it very much. . .it was intriguing to hear the different sounds

of the fog horns out on the water. . .some sounded like a car horn. . .

some like a train horn. . .one sounded like those obnoxious air horn

thingys that folks always bring to graduations. . .

we will definitely return on a prettier day. . .and during high tide, so I can enjoy the surf. . .

I love the magical sound of the waves pounding against the rocks. . .
