We went to Prison. . .Yuma Territorial Prison that is. . .

2015-01-29 2015-01-29 002 001

Our trip from WHY AZ to Yuma AZ
was about three hours on mostly two lane highway
with no shoulder until we reached Interstate 8 at Gila Bend. . .
but still a great drive with the
Mohawk Mountains always out in front of us. . .
we love that. . .but this was the first somewhat minor grade
mountain pass we would be crossing since our
major repair in El Paso. . .

No sweat. . .climbed right over it. . .no hiccups. . .yaaaa!
Dave feels he can sense a difference in the power. . .
I guess so. . .don’t you feel better when you can get fuel. ..LOL!

So. . .here we are at Southern Mesa RV Park,
way out in the middle of the lemons and tangerines. . .
Passport America – 50A – FHU – $23 PA rate. . .

AJ (Janice) and Rick Binns, friends from Ohio are here,
and we got lucky enough to get a space right next door. . .

We are all climbing in the truck to head out on our adventure,
as rain is promised for tomorrow, and the skies are already clouding up. . .

2015-01-29 2015-01-29 002 005

again with the Westerns. . .Dave NEEDED to see it. . .ha ha!

it’s one of those places, that, no matter how good the pics are. . .
you can only appreciate by seeing it for yourself. . .

Sentinel Peak or as it’s known in Tucson–“A” Mountain

I’m always seeking out the best vantage point for pics,
and if you want a fabulous view of Tucson,

you need to drive to the peak of “A” Mountain. . .

2015-01-26 2015-01-26 001 002

this is the story of how it came to be named. . .

2015-01-26 2015-01-26 001 004

it was very cloudy and overcast today, with rain predicted for this afternoon,
but still a beautiful view of a large portion of the Santa Cruz Valley. . .

2015-01-26 2015-01-26 001 005

and Downtown Tucson. . .

2015-01-26 2015-01-26 001 006

looking out toward Mexico and the ever present brown haze of smog. . .

2015-01-26 2015-01-26 001 001

a taxi driver was up top, playing with his remote control toy. . .
would love to have talked to him, but he was on the phone the entire time. . .

would be fun to see some of the pics he got. . .

If you love to have a birds eye view then you would
enjoy this short drive to the top of Sentinel Peak. ..

highly recommended. . .enjoy!

see ya next time,
Janice and Dave

Sabino Canyon–Coronado National Forest

Oh Lordy. . .the weekend has not been filled with our best tourist moments. . .
which we can only attribute to our own selves. . .and for no other reason. . .really!

With high winds for three days, Mt Lemmon has been put on a back burner. . .
we were warned by friends that driving up it in the wind is NOT the thing to be doing. . .

okay. . .so Saturday morning, in revamping mode and while I’m busy
doing other things, Dave researches the Scenic Drive through some Box Canyon. . .
looks great. . .off we go. . .problem being. . .after the initial Scenic Drive Sign
off the freeway. . .we NEVER SAW another one. . .so we missed the turn. . .
and drove, and drove, and drove. . .oh my word. . .

2015-01-24 2015-01-25 001 001

this is the prettiest thing we saw all day. . .and while beautiful,
just not the box canyon we thought we were going to explore and hike. . .

by the time we turned around, got back to the border check point. . .
ask the Border Patrol Officer where the turn off was. . .
discovered it was a rough, gravel road. . .well. . .we were just out of the mood. . .

wah wah wah. . .back home we go. . .

Faith Tabernacle UPC - Pastor Paul and Debbie Connor

ahhh. . .but this morning helped revive the old spirits. . .
Sunday Morning Worship Service with the folks at
Faith Tabernacle – Tucson. . .

really though. . .how are you supposed to pay attention to what anyone is saying. . .
when God’s splendor is just spread out right there in the background. . .lovely!

Sabino Canyon Recreation Area - Coronado National Forest

Sabino Canyon, which was on our list was only 12 minutes from the church,
so we brought some stuff to change into. . .went and had lunch. . .
and headed over there. . .

Sabino Canyon Recreation Area - Coronado National Forest

paid our $8 each to ride the tram. . .best decision ever.
We might could hike down into the canyon. . .
but I have my very serious doubts we would ever make it back out. . .LOL!

Sabino Canyon Recreation Area - Coronado National Forest

it was a very comfortable, but overcast day. . .
our pics do not even begin to give justice
to what a really pretty place this is. . .
so I will leave you with just this one. . .

Crested Saguaro Cactus - Sabino Canyon

and our very first sighting of a Crested Saguaro Cactus
that the tour guide pointed out to us. . .

We were excited about that. . .

Only a couple more days are left here in Tucson. . .
still plenty to try and see. . .not sure what’s next. . .

I do know the dreaded grocery shopping
must be fitted in there somewhere. . .

See you there. . .whatever it is. . .

Tombstone AZ–Tombstone Courthouse State Historical Park and The Shootout at the OK Corral

We knew as soon as we woke up, and heard the straps on the window awning humming,
that we would not be driving up Mt Lemmon as planned. . .
if it’s this windy here. . .can’t imagine what it would be like on the mountain. . .

so. . .reboot. . .literally. . .

Tombstone AZ

Tombstone is way high on Dave’s list of must sees. . .
so off we go. . .about 60 miles away. . .

Main Street - Tombstone

what to say. . .what to say. . .it’s a Western Town. . .
you know. . .one of those Tourist _ _ _ _ Towns. . .
which we sort of knew going in. . .but even more so than we expected. . .

Sorry Babe. . .at least you got to see it. . .right?

Tombstone Courthouse

to be fair. . .there really is a lot of history to be found in the area. . .
The Court House is on a part of the Tombstone State Historical Park. . .
and contains a fairly extensive museum on the inside. . .

Tombstone Courthouse

you know Dave loves a good museum. . .

Tombstone Courthouse  Tombstone Courthouse

two of my favorite things. . .

Tombstone Courthouse

I told you, and told you about putting all that
funny stuff on  FaceBook every morning. . .

Tombstone Courthouse

off to the (newly reconstructed) gallows you go. . .

The Shootout at the OK Corral

time for the serious stuff. . .

The Shootout at the OK Corral

The Shootout at the OK CorralThe Shootout at the OK Corral

The Shootout at the OK CorralThe Shootout at the OK Corral

the Shoot Out at the OK Corral. . .
I mean. . .anyone who’s ever watched Westerns
knows about the shootout at the OK Corral. . .right?

Boot Hill

and. . .last stop. . .Boot Hill. . .
every western town is required to have a Boot Hill. . .

Dragoon Mountains as viewed from Boot Hill

there was a beautiful view of what I believe are the Dragoon Mountains
as viewed from Boot Hill. . .

and that was it. . .it really was a fun day to be out and about. . .
and we saved another $15 with our Tucson Passport Savings book,
the weather warmed up, and turned out lovely. . .

It reminded me of taking our boys to Dodge City Kansas
when they were about 12 or so. . .they loved it. . .
and I guarantee. . .any child would love Tombstone just as much. . .

Not sure what our plans are for tomorrow,
so check back in . . .okay!

’til then,

Janice and Dave
