Baltimore ended up being one of our “bust” day. . .
every once in awhile that happens, I guess!
This summer trip was devoted to seeing and focusing on Maine
and Acadia National Park. . .and we should have left it at that. . .
rather than trying to cram a few more things in
when it’s really just going to be a rush,
with no time to slow down and appreciate. . .
I think that’s what happened with Baltimore. . .
we were on our way to Annapolis to see the State House. . .
we had to pass through Baltimore. . .
so I just HAD to see the harbor area. . .which is fabulous!
I highly recommend going down there and enjoying it. . .
and had we stopped with that, given our time restraints,
everything would probably have been fine. . .
but NOOOO. . .we do have a couple of hours. . .
we could cram in a trolley tour. . .MISTAKE!
Bad Tour. . .BAD, BAD Tour. . .
you can’t cram that much stuff into one tour. . .
they seriously need to take out
about half of the stuff they tried to show us,
and just focus on the really great
highlights of the city. . .
add to that the poor communication skills of the guide,
due to age I’m afraid. . .
very, very knowledgeable about all the stuff. . .
just could not translate it into coherent sentences. . .
by the time he would tell us what we were seeing. . .
we were LONG past it. . .it was just sad. . .
sad, sad, sad. . .
I started out taking notes, as I usually do,
so I can remember what the pics are of. . .
that didn’t last long. . .I was so confused!
Anyway. . .as we did when we had a horrible tour in Boston,
we will return, and give Baltimore another shot,
when we have a LOT more time to explore. . .
Just hate that we basically wasted $26 pp for the tour. . .
plus $26 for parking. . .plus a tip. . . (courtesy only)
and two hours of our time. . .
Okay. . .enough whining. . .on to Annapolis. . .
Janice and Dave
Sorry about the disappointing tour. Lesson learned...and expensive lesson at that. It it get better.
ReplyDeleteyeah. . .pretty sure we may ix nay the trolley tours for awhile. . .unless they are really reasonably priced. . .the really great ones get'cha spoiled. . .
DeleteI hope you wrote a letter to the tour company and complained. You deserve a refund and they deserve to know about the quality of their tour.
ReplyDeleteI actually did file a written complain Kim. . .not something I EVER do. . .but I was annoyed by being brushed off as a nuisance. . .not anticipating a response. . .
DeleteOh crap! Sorry it was a bust.
ReplyDeleteBaltimore is one of those cities we have never visited and really never had an desire to see. But if you are going to give it a second shot, I guess we can at least give it a first one.
you guys would thoroughly enjoy it Marsha. . .the harbor area is done very well. . .much like the River Walk in San Antonio.
DeleteI think when we return we will look for an RV park close enough that we can do public transportation to the downtown area. . .then they have the free shuttles to get around (different from the one we took.)
It really is a beautiful town with magnificent history. . .well worth a visit!
Too bad about the bad luck tour. I never hear or see much about Baltimore and it would have been nice to look at some photos had the tour company come through for you.
ReplyDeletethere are a few more pics in the Baltimore Album Rick. . .the link is at the bottom of the post. . .but no really great ones, which is why they aren't on the blog. . .they're not worthy. . .LOL!
DeleteBaltimore is really a great place to visit. . .the entire Harbor Area is very, very nice with lots of restaurants and shopping. . .nice place to just sit out on the water and enjoy the boats and the people. There is free public transportation to explore all the different venues, once you make it to the downtown area. . .if you are ever in the area. . .be sure to check it out. ..we shall return at some point!
