Hyannis, Hyannisport Harbor Cruise and the Kennedy Compound
we determined a Harbor Cruise out of Hyannis Mass
was the best way to see the Kennedy Compound. . .
from the time I knew we were going to Cape Cod,
seeing it was my main objective. . .
SUCCESS. . .it’s not near as formidable as imagined in my mind. . .
but I can certainly see why the family enjoyed being here so much. . .
the JFK Memorial Park is also available for your viewing pleasure. . .
a short drive, or walk from the Harbor. . .
Monday, Sept 9
State Capitol Building in Providence RI plus a side trip to Newport RI
We normally try to stay in on weekends to avoid all the crowds. . .
so we waited ‘til Monday to go check out . . .
the Rhode Island State House. . .
we even went inside. . .
on to the next event. . .
Newport Rhode Island is only 45 minutes away from Providence. . .
may as well go check it out. . .
we were here in 2005 off a New England Fall Foliage Cruise,
and toured the Newport Mansions then. . .
so not quite sure why we felt the need to return. . .
but a trolley tour to see the rest of the town might be nice. . .
so that’s what we did. . .the tour driver was very knowledgeable. . .
although from a personal standpoint. . .his jokes about wives were a little lame. . .
got a little old after about the first three. . .however. . .
he did know his stuff about who owned which house. . .
what it was worth. . .when it was built. . .really great!
my favorite pic of the day. . .one of the “mansion” owners out on Ocean Drive
has a farm. . .these are Galloways. . .the “Oreo Cookie” cow. . .
we drove over to the Cliff Walk and enjoyed walking down it for a few minutes. . .
it was damaged during Hurricane Sandy. . .so repairs are still ongoing. . .

DeleteI never even though about taking a tour to see the Kennedy Compound. It looks huge. With all the originals gone who is living there now??
ReplyDeleteWe're in Rhode Island and going to Newport. Guess we'll give the trolly a try since you liked it. Maybe we won't get the driver with the worn out wife jokes.
We are big trolley fans Sherry. . .so not sure if you will like it or not. It gives Dave a chance to just enjoy the scenery, and not worry about figuring out where to turn next. . .and then, if we see something we like. . .we are able to do a follow up visit and explore it in greater depth.
DeleteI would have enjoyed driving the Ocean Drive, and seeing the park area again. . .but somehow after the Cliff Walk, we forgot about it, and headed out of town. . .duh!
The Kennedy Compound only consists of five houses. . .Ted Kennedy's children still utilize the original home. All the homes are still in the family. . .I just wanted to see it, and am glad I had the opportunity. . .
What a great experience. The Atlantic coast does have some nice places to visit.
ReplyDeletewe have thoroughly enjoyed it Nan. . .we had hoped to do Atlantic City, and the boardwalk. . .which would mean seeing the Atlantic again. . .we'll hafta check out the feasibility of doing that after the big fire last week. . .crazy!

ReplyDeleteI think seeing and learning more about the Compound would be very interesting. I do love those Kennedys but know they aren't angels.
yes, it is a very beautiful building Marsha. . .and I found the dome intriguing. . .
DeleteI also find the idea of the Kennedy's being the closest we will ever come to "American Royalty" intriguing. . .and, no, they certainly were no angels amongst them. . .a lot of sad trauma in all of their family history. . .
