Full Time RV Travel–Photo of the Day–Eastern Lubber Grasshopper–Crystal River FL

DSC_7257

As we were walking along at Homasassa Springs Wildlife Park where we had gone to see the Manatees, Dave saw this Eastern Lubber Grasshopper sitting on this fence post. . .we had NEVER seen a grasshopper this color, it almost looks plastic. . .they are common in Florida. . .although they are not normally this bright from the pics I saw as I was researching them.

  4. As a native of Florida, I have been dealing with these grasshoppers all my life. I used to keep them as pets as a child. Now I spray them to keep them from destroying my plants. If you step on one, they give a cracking sound.
