Full Time RV Travel–Picnic Table Reminder

2006-01-02 Blog 001
Once again I’m reminded why the picnic table needs a cover before we eat. . .
I have personally witnessed dogs being bathed and groomed up there. . .just saying!

  1. Isn't that the truth? In my younger years, I would have opened the window and said something like. . .get your dog off the table. . .what are you thinking. . .but time and age have taught me. . .You Can't Fix Stupid! LOL. . .

  2. I think I worry a little more about bird poo as a health hazard. Don't get me wrong, love the birds but they do have some health hazards. Kind of goes along with absolutely agreeing with people needing to pick up their dog's poo but really have to wonder about people who feed the ducks and geese on the ground around the picnic table and the ensuing mess of poo that leaves which no one cleans up.

    1. can't disagree with you on that point. . .and actually setting the dog up there to get the sticker out wasn't SO bad. . .it was the one who was grooming, and bathing the dog that kinda freaked me out. . .YUCK!. . .and then some little kids gonna set their food down on top of all that . . .ughhhh. . .

  4. Really?? You travel with your dogs, sleep with your dogs, let your dogs eat off your dishes, but someone else's dogs being bathed on a picnic table grosses you out? How shallow....

  5. I would't care if it was a dog's but or a child's butt, or bird poop. I do not want to eat off a public picnic table that people have changed a baby on, or let their dog sit on. I ALWAYS put a tablecloth on those public tables. I know Janice doesn't have a dog, but if you travel with your dog, let it lick your plates, etc., fine, those are your choices. But I don't have a dog and I don't want to eat my food off a table where your dog's butt has been.

    1. We rarely use the outside table Karen. . .but I'm picking me up a tablecloth tomorrow for those occasions I would like to use it. . .and like longdog says. . .there's bird poo to be concerned about. . .and I've seen squirrels all over them. . .so I'll just put the cloth on when I use it. . .quite the discussion going on. . .I'm surprised!

    2. Janice, Debi has a collection of table clothes we carry. Her favorite ones have elastic corners like a fitted sheet, I am not allowed to put anything on the table before she puts a cover on it. And Shelly, I have a dog and she does sleep with us, but, she is not allowed on the table, she knows where she belongs. My Chihuahua has better manners than alot of campers that I have run into.

    3. Hey Ed. . .any idea where Debi found the ones with the elastic. . .I know I've seen them in catalogs. . .I'm checking at Bed Bath & Beyond tomorrow. . .not sure where else to look. . .that would be so much easier than using the clips!

Tell Debi I'm glad her surgery went well. . .

  6. I always cover the table when we first arrive. Plus, before we eat on that table (if we do), I cover it with another tablecloth and remove the top one after we're done. That way, we're not eating on bird poop. We travel with a dog and he sleeps with us, but he never gets on any table -- inside or out. He also has his own bowl so he doesn't have to lick the plates. LOL He's spoiled, but not that spoiled.

    1. Although it's not really that big of a deal, I've tried to avoid adding one more thing to keep up with. . .but I am really beginning to see the necessity. . .so I'll definitely be shopping for one tomorrow. . .

  7. Sorry everyone, I wasn't trying to be argumentative--it's just that it is something that is so easy to deal with and you can't control what critters end up on the outdoor picnic table. My point was if you travel with animals or to any place that animals are, you are probably exposed to more "stuff" than you realize. And it's hard to say why someone would put their animal up there, but besides bad manners, they could be handicapped or something that makes it impossible to groom on the ground. Now if we can just get all dog owners to clean up after their pets.....

  8. Debi got her table clothes at Walmart. They were on sale for the 4th of July for a couple of dollars. she bought about 4 of them. Let us know when you get back in town and we can sit down and talk motor homes. The PO is offering a new package this month, so Debi is going to take it...Fulltime, here we come!!!
