We had a busy day, and covered lots of ground. . .
First up. . .Lincoln’s Tomb
I loved the majesty of it. . .the grandeur of it. . .the story of it. . .
I loved the reverence that was being shown by those in attendance. . .
The atmosphere reminded me of being at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. . .

The atmosphere reminded me of being at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. . .
what a beautiful final resting place. . .
now. . .on to something more cheerful. . .
one of those ones that are difficult to photograph. . .
this one due to the trees in front. ..lots and lots of trees. . .
and a huge monolith with a Lincoln Statue (shocking. . .right?)
so click the link above, and enjoy lots better pics than the ones I was able to take.
Our tour guide Vicky, was a hoot. . .

I hope when you come here to see it,
you have the privilege of having her as your guide. . .
again. . .it’s gorgeous. . .the pics I took do not do it justice at all. . .
so I really hope you’ll click the link and check it all out. . .
originally the State Capitol Building in Springfield. . .
then the Sangamon County Offices. . .
now a bit of a “MUSEUM” if you ask me. . .
while we found the outside quite impressive,
the inside was a bit of a let down. . .
not just because it was an old building. . .
we love old buildings. . .
not something I can really put my finger on exactly. . .
Perhaps learning that the original building was completely torn down,
and this new steel “replica” building was put up in it’s place. . .
it’s a kinda long story. . .you can read it here under
Illinois Historic Preservation Agency
on the way back to the car, I sat down and told Mr Lincoln all about it!
In the midst of all this going on today we made it to
the Cozy Dog Drive In for lunch. . .
a Route 66 Institution. . .
lots and lots of memorabilia on the walls
lots and lots of memorabilia on the walls
came highly recommended. . .
eh. . .it was a corn dog, and french fries (again)
at least this time it was real, hand cut, fresh made french fries though. . .
Pretty sure we’ve had about enough “junk food” for this trip. . .

so, after a quick stop by the Farmer’s Market
held at the Fairgrounds on Thursday evenings. . .
to pick up something “healthy” and a couple other homemade goodies. . .
I made chicken noodle soup for supper. ..
now that hit the spot. . .yum!
especially since it’s 55* right now
See you next time at the Lincoln’s Home in Springfield,
‘til then,
