We Made it to Mr Lincoln’s Neighborhood

Lincoln Home - Mr Lincoln's Neighborhood

today, we made it back. . .

Lincoln Home - Mr Lincoln's Neighborhood

to check out Mr Lincoln’s Neighborhood. . .

THIS is the FIRST place we should have toured in Springfield. . .

because, it gave us a greater scope of the beginning years,

I highly recommend that when you go in the Visitor Center

for your FREE tickets to tour the Lincoln Home

Lincoln Home - Mr Lincoln's NeighborhoodLincoln Home - Mr Lincoln's Neighborhood

you first watch these two films . . .in this order. . .Theatre 2 and then Theatre 1. . .

Lincoln Home - Mr Lincoln's Neighborhood

and then go meet your tour guide and do the home tour. . .

This was the only home Lincoln ever owned. . .

The Lincoln’s bought it for $1500

and then added an addition on to it for an additional $1500. . .

Lincoln Home - Mr Lincoln's Neighborhood

it was a great tour. . .this is the only pic I took of the inside. . .
I enjoyed thinking about the fact that

Abraham Lincoln. . .the sixteenth President of the United States

actually sat in this room with his family over a hundred years ago. . .

more pics inside the home are available here

Honest Abe Campaign Float - Lincoln Home - Mr Lincoln's Neighborhood

a campaign float

The Lincoln Neighborhood was very, very enjoyable. . .

reminded me greatly of Greenfield Village near Detroit. . .

though not near as touristed up. . .

however. . .in my opinion. . .Springfield could actually take some lessons

from Greenfield Village or from Colonial Williamsburg. . .

some period actors and such would bring it all to life.

Not sure how they would ever be able to do that with it being a

National Park Installation. . .anyway. . .(rabbit trail. . .LOL. . .sorry!)

We also toured the Dana Thomas – Frank Lloyd Wright house

which is around the corner, owned by the State of Illinois,

and does not charge an entrance fee. . .but does accept suggested donations. . .
No cameras are allowed inside the home, so I did not bring it along at all. . .

Outside pics of the home can be seen here. . .

some inside pics of the home plus a short video are available here. . .

and a bit more of the story is available here. . .

Springfield has been one of our busiest tourist jaunts in awhile. . .

we have been out and about exploring almost every day. . .

We have one more day, and two more projects to attend before we head out. . .

See you then,

Janice and Dave
